Expression in Form

July 15, 2024

A series that came as a result of being privately commissioned, Form was a chance encounter 4 years ago. I was given free range to create with two goals: the piece must be an aQut original, and the subject should be nude. Anyone that knows me can say that this was completely out of my comfort zone.. My works, rooted in realism and minimalism, have been intentionally vivid, sharp and all subjects were fully clothed. In some cases the subjects were styled down to their accessories each detail all playing a part in the overall narrative. Alas, a search for a venue and subject to best express this message began. I’m never really short of models to collaborate with, and finding a venue took almost no time but it wasn’t the easiest trying to find the right subject. This needed to be done with someone not seen often but yet feels like someone known before. I also wanted someone comfortable being completely naked in front of my lens.

After some research I met with a U.K. based model Jackie and her agent to discuss budget. We negotiated parameters and logistics on how to get her to the US. Jacki was incredible, a true professional. Having a set crew of women definitely helped, not to mention the on-set moral support from my wife and daughter!

Anyway, we came, saw, and conquered within 4hrs and alas, Form was born. This is a limited series, and my favorite body of work to-date. 1st editions of #1 and #2 were sold to the family who commissioned me, at first I didn’t have any intentions of making this series open to public. They insisted, so I’ve settled on a limited release of prints in specific parameters for all who are interested. please click the link below to view and/or purchase.

Reflection on STORIES

STORIES was a year-long story-telling journey that celebrates the lives of Black men and women in their truest and most authentic form. Each segment of the book, labeled a CHAPTER, as an ode to the synopsis of each person’s story. There are 26 editorial shoots across a 447 paged hardcover book. What you see above is a peak into one of my favorite Chapters in STORIES, Chapter Saphir. Saphir Niakadie was highlighted for her personal story of growth and triumph.

She is an internationally published Ivorian Photographer based in Brooklyn and Cote d'Ivoire, in her story we get a chance to witness a metamorphosis, and the deliberate use of Tulle and Tulips were a combination formulated to inspire thoughts of ascension and the passage of wisdom. Clicking on the button above will give you access to a few editioned prints, while the below will give access to the book where you can purchase your own copy of STORIES for an opportunity to learn more Chapter Saphir amongst 25 other amazing individuals and their stories.
